Mi Property are excited to introduce the joining of Judy Harris as our Development Underwriter. Judy began her Mi Property journey in October 2021 and has been a great addition to the team.

Here are some of the questions we asked Judy about her career so far and her perspective of the insurance industry.

What does your role involve and how did you get into it?

My role involves creating and growing relationships with our existing brokers and welcoming new ones. I aim to understand how your business works so we can help benefit and enhance your clients’ journey with you. After spending over 20 years in the broking world, 15 of those in Management, I was looking for a different challenge. I am looking forward to working with a fantastic, knowledgeable and professional team to help deliver on the amazing service they already provide.

What do you think are the biggest challenges brokers face?

Like many businesses, Coronavirus has presented one of the biggest challenges to us in recent times. Not only have we had to manage a work force working from home with the added test of ensuring our IT infrastructure was fit for purpose but we had to be there for each other as human beings living in a very uncertain and scary time, whilst trying to ensure our customers continued to receive a first class service. Seeing and dealing with clients who were trying to hold on to their businesses and the uncertainty if claims for Covid would be covered, I believe has left a bitter taste and it’s our challenge to regain the trust of clients.

Other industry challenges must be Brexit, attracting talent and keeping our valued members of staff working in a safe environment.

What do you expect for the insurance industry from 2022?

I expect to continue to see the market remain hard in 2022, as insurer appetite has been and remains low. Fair pricing will be difficult to obtain for clients unless there is a shift in this area. Placing flood risks is equally becoming more of an issue, making it harder for brokers to provide customers with adequate cover and attractive premiums.
